Urban planning workshop aims to help cities adapt to climate change KARACHI: In Karachi, the NDMA is holding a two-day workshop on "Resilient Urban Planning in Climate Extremes." The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh, UNHABITAT, and the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) of NDMA successfully held a two-day workshop on comprehensive "Resilient Urban Planning in Climate Extremes." A wide spectrum of stakeholders actively participated in the event, bringing together important figures in urban planning and catastrophe management. Mr. Tanveer Piracha, Chief Coordinator of NIDM, gave a briefing on proactive disaster management in Pakistan and opened the session. Participants from federal and provincial government departments, UN agencies, international non-governmental organizations, national humanitarian organizations, disaster management authorities, Rescue 1122, and representatives from academic civil society organizations participated in the workshop, which acted as a collaborative platform. Improving knowledge of resilient urban planning techniques in the face of climatic extremes was the workshop's main goal.
