ISLAMABAD: Students seeking verification of their degrees are facing a rather precarious situation as the Higher Education Commission (HEC) degree verification system is down for up to 10 days.
Sources say the degree verification of hundreds of students is facing uncertainty, worrying even those intending to travel abroad for higher studies.
The government body verifies degrees and provides education-related services to hundreds, if not thousands, of students each year.
HEC attestation or verification service is often used by students who want to secure admission in foreign educational institutions that often require HEC attested documents to solve the problem of forged documents etc.
The service is also used by people who intend to apply for jobs, as well as those who apply for immigration to other countries.
Lamenting the VÚC’s stance on the said issue, the students said their concerns were not addressed despite visiting the authority’s offices several times.
They said their challans were not issued despite submitting online applications.
Meanwhile, commenting on the issue, HEC officials said that the degree verification system in Islamabad has failed and students will be issued challans and appointment dates once the system is restored.
