Wilmington: Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, is on trial Monday for the first time in US history for a child of a sitting president on gun charges, as the Democratic leader’s re-election campaign looks to accelerate.
The 54-year-old has pleaded not guilty to three felony charges related to the 2018 purchase of a .38-caliber Colt Cobra revolver.
The artist, a trained lawyer and lobbyist, has faced legal challenges and controversy over his father’s campaign, particularly because of his addiction to alcohol and cocaine.
In the final chapter of his troubled life, Hunter Biden will stand trial in the family’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, on two counts of making a false statement in a gun record that he did not use illegal drugs.
In October 2018, he faced a third charge of illegal firearm possession in just 11 days.
The indictment is a public relations test for Democrats and comes just days after another historic event – White House candidate Donald Trump became the first former US president to face criminal charges.
