The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday announced the schedule of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in Bangladesh from October 3.
Pakistan have been drawn in Group A alongside six-time champions Australia, arch-rivals India, New Zealand and a yet-to-be-qualified team.
The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup will begin on October 3 when England host South Africa in Dhaka.
Each team will play in four group stages and once the results are over, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals to be played on October 17 and 18, where the winner will play in the final on October 20 in Dhaka.
A total of 23 matches will be played in Dhaka and Sylhet over 19 days. Reserve dates for semi-finals and finals have been implemented as required.
England will host South Africa in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Dhaka on October 3, according to the tournament schedule announced on Sunday. Hosts Bangladesh will open their campaign on the opening day in Dhaka by taking one of their qualifiers.
Defending champions Australia will host another qualifier in Sylhet on October 4. The flagship India-Pakistan match will be played in Sylhet on October 6.
Australia, India, New Zealand and Pakistan are drawn in Group A with one qualifier, while South Africa, England, West Indies and Bangladesh are drawn in Group B with other qualifiers. All Group A matches will be played in Sylhet while Group B matches will be played in Dhaka.
Hosted by Bangladesh, the tournament will begin on October 3 and the final will conclude on October 20 in Dhaka. The semi-finals will be played on October 17 in Sylhet and on October 18 in Dhaka.
23 matches will be played in Dhaka and Sylhet. Bangladesh is hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup for the second time.
Australia became the defending champion after defeating South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2023.
The remaining two spots in the Women’s T20 World Cup will be filled on Sunday when Sri Lanka, UAE, Scotland and Ireland play the semi-finals of the global qualifiers in Abu Dhabi.
