Peshawar: The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamia College University (ICU) Peshawar on Friday agreed to fight together to eradicate polio from the province and save children from permanent disability due to the disease.
In this regard, the EOC delegation led by Special Secretary Health for Polio Prevention and EOC Coordinator Abdul Basit met the Vice Chancellor of Islamia College Professor Dr. by Gul Majid Khan.
The meeting was attended by EOC Deputy Coordinator Mohammad Zeeshan Khan, World Health Organization (WHO) Team Leader Provincial Dr Sarfaraz Faridi, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Media Director Shadab Younis and SBC Officer Yasir Farrukh and other EOC officials. at the meeting.
Expressing his views, Special Minister for Health Abdul Basit said that apart from Pakistan and Afghanistan, polio has been completely eradicated in other countries of the world.
He said that there are various misconceptions about polio vaccine in our society which need to be addressed by creating awareness in the society.
Mentioning the important role of students in removing misunderstandings about polio vaccine in the society, Abdul Baast said that students can play an important role in creating awareness about the prevention of polio and other diseases in the society.
He said the EOC plans to keep the students of Islamia College University engaged in various activities to create awareness in the society about health, especially polio vaccination.

Vice-Chancellor of Islamia College University Professor Dr. Gul Majid Khan appreciated the ongoing efforts of the EOC to eradicate polio and assured all possible support of the university to eradicate the disease.
On this occasion, various suggestions were made to remove misunderstandings about the polio vaccine in the society and to emphasize the importance of the polio vaccine in ensuring the eradication of polio.
At the meeting, it was agreed that a formal memorandum for the implementation of cooperation between the two organizations for the eradication of polio will be finalized, in the framework of which both organizations will jointly organize various activities for the eradication of polio.
