ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) on Monday seized 500 kilograms of rotten meat meant for Aabpara meat shop to ensure food safety during Muharram.
Deputy Director for IFA Operations Dr. Speaking to APP, Tahira Saddique said that the operation led by the Food Safety Teams (FST) resulted in the destruction of the tainted meat, imposition of a heavy fine and
filing a lawsuit against those involved.
She said the smelly meat was discovered hidden in the supplier’s vehicle.
The deputy director of the Islamabad Food Authority noted the presence of insects on the meat and the lack of necessary records and documents, highlighting the seriousness of the offence.
Dr. Tahira Siddique, part of the food safety team, stressed that eating such contaminated meat poses serious health risks. The operation not only targeted suppliers, but also led to the closure of several stores with expired meat. She emphasized the importance of compliance with food safety regulations and warned that strict measures would be taken to eliminate the adulteration mafia.
