ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has reserved its decision on a petition raising questions about the educational background of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq took up the plea in which the petitioner, advocate Mian Dawood, sought verification of Justice Jahangiri’s educational credentials and urged him to stop his judicial activities.
During the proceedings, Justice Farooq questioned the admissibility of challenging the judicial commission and asked why it was included as a party in the case.
The petitioner replied that he sought to subpoena records from all parties except Justice Jahangiri, stressing that no court action was sought against the Judicial Commission or the Federation.
The Chief Justice questioned whether the action against the High Court judge was actually permissible, in view of the Registrar’s objections.
The petitioner reiterated his request for an inquiry into the eligibility of the honorable judges, citing the Supreme Court’s 1998 decision in the Sajjad Ali Shah case and referring to the ongoing public debate fueled by university letters circulating on social and mainstream media.
Justice Farooq redirected attention to arguments on admissibility rather than merits.
Subsequently, the court reserved a decision on the admissibility of a motion to verify the education of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri and remove him from office.
