Pakistan batsman Imad Wasim took responsibility for the loss against India in a press conference ahead of the 2024 World Cup final against Ireland.
After the USA-Ireland match was washed out, Pakistan were eliminated, sending the USA to the Super 8.
Imad admitted that he could not execute the plan in New York tough against India and said that Pakistan needs to change their mindset to dispel the fear of failure.
“I think the reason we lost [in the World Cup] is our mindset. We need to get over the fear of failure and try new things. It’s all about thinking, other teams have changed their minds, we are behind them because we didn’t change our thinking, “Imad said.
He said, significant changes are needed in the team to compete effectively on the world stage.
“It’s not my domain but I think there should be a change. There should be a radical change in the way cricket is played now so that we can fight world cricket and fight world cricket,” he said.
Imad also acknowledged the effect of the weather on Pakistan’s elimination, but said the team should have won their previous match.
“You can’t control the weather. It rained last week, I’ve never seen rain like that in my life, so you can’t blame the hosts or the ICC. It was hard to beat, but we didn’t let that happen – won both games we stayed in the zone safe “We know, but unfortunately it didn’t happen.”
