RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan refused to meet the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cyber crime team that visited Adiala jail late on Thursday.
According to sources in Adiala Jail, former Prime Minister X has refused to participate in the FIA investigation related to his controversial social media posts on his Twitter account earlier.
According to sources, Khan refused to answer questions from the FIA team. “I will answer any questions in the presence of a lawyer.”
Sources said the FIA investigation team has received a written reply from the PTI founder.
The development comes after the FIA’s cyber crime wing decided to take action against Khan over his controversial tweets on social media on Thursday.
“Every Pakistani should study the Hamud ur Rahman team report and know who is the real traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” the note on X read in the name of the former prime minister.
However, PTI chief Barrister Gohar said he had nothing to do with Khan as he had not seen the text of the post uploaded on the account.
Gohar also defended the tweet, saying it was taken out of context.
“When we compare it to 1971, the context and the comparison is in a political context, not the other way around – nothing about the army,” the PTI leader said.
On the other hand, the former government party also said that people can learn from history after criticizing the events of 1971, saying that it was only called as a reminder.
The post on the PTI supremo’s account drew strong criticism from all quarters, including Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who said Imran’s true face had finally come to the public.
In response, FIA sources told Geo News that the decision to take action was based on Mujeeb’s “propaganda video” uploaded on May 26 from the PTI founder’s account.
“The founder of PTI is in Adiala Jail but his account is being used to upload propaganda videos. Cyber wing FIA will talk to four PTI people in this regard,” he said.
The four include Khan, Gohar, PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan and General Secretary Omar Ayub, sources said.
The agency team will determine whether this post has been uploaded by the PTI founder himself or with his permission. It will also know who made the “anti-Pakistan propaganda” video.
“If this action is taken by the account holder, he will be prosecuted. If the account holder does not, he must apply to close X’s account.”
