RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Friday said that his party will attend the All Parties Conference (APC) where the political party is expected to take on the government’s Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.
“My party will attend the all-party conference and listen to what the government has to say,” the PTI founder told reporters while attending proceedings at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
The PTI founder, while noting that his party has reservations about new anti-terror measures, said it will only lead to instability in the country.
With terrorism on the rise, the government has launched an enhanced and revitalized national anti-terrorism campaign focused on intelligence operations.
The federal minister last week approved the launch of anti-terror operation following the recommendations of the Central Committee of the National Action Plan to increase the heat against militants targeting Pakistan.
However, opposition parties like PTI, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Amami National Party (ANP) and others expressed concern over the military operation and said Parliament should be convinced before taking such a decision.
In response to his criticism, the PMO said there was “no large-scale military operation” in the country.
The recently announced concept of ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ to maintain stability is being misunderstood and equated with kinetic operations like Zarb-e-Azab, Rah-e-Najaat and others,” the PMO said in a statement on June 24.
The federal government also said that there is no free area in the country because the ability of terrorist organizations to carry out large-scale organized operations in Pakistan has been reduced by previous kinetic operations.
