Karachi: Internet services were briefly disrupted in several parts of the country on Tuesday, according to Downdetector.
Downdetector, which tracks outages by collecting status reports from various sources, including users, showed that users reported problems with the services of three internet service providers – Pakistan Telecommunication Company.
Around 4:00 PM, an internet tracker showed that user reports of the last two issues did not indicate current issues and did not indicate any potential issues with PTCL.
Internet monitor Netblocks also reports crashes after restoration. He said the operator attributed the disruption to “technical problems”. For PTCL, users reported service interruption mainly from Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. Transworld Home has previously reported from Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Users report for Nayatel from Rawalpindi, Lahore and Okara.
In an email to customers seen by Dawn.com, Transworld Home said there was an “unexpected nationwide outage affecting Internet services in Pakistan.”
“Our team is currently investigating the issue and will resume full service once the outage is resolved,” he said.
Today’s riots erupted after former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta told the media that “elections were hijacked” and since February 17, access to social media platforms has been largely cut off in the country. After the general election, the government temporarily suspended mobile phone and data services across the country, despite an earlier promise by the Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation that it would provide uninterrupted internet access.
In January, services of the social media platform were disrupted during an online event organized by PTI. The government at the time blamed “technical” problems with network installations for the internet outage and said there was “no guarantee” similar incidents would not happen in the future.
