ISLAMABAD: Under the sponsorship of COMSTECH and UEARS, a two-day international workshop on “Ethical Research in Clinical Trials” will take place from February 07–09. The goal of the workshop is to discuss the issues surrounding research integrity in clinical trials in low- and middle-income nations and to suggest the best possible guidelines for raising the standard of this field of study.
The workshop, which will take place in Cairo, Egypt, aims to build a network of professionals working in the sector for ongoing learning and exchanges, as well as to transmit information and training about research integrity.
An official from COMSTECH stated that the workshop and conference will contribute to the development of solutions for the problems low- and middle-income nations encounter when conducting clinical trials.
Participants in the workshop can be either in person or virtually, including students, scientists, researchers, experts, healthcare managers, government officials, think tanks, health non-governmental organizations, and policymakers from the field of multi-center clinical trials research from around the world and the global south.
Globally, the search and sharing of knowledge have a special place, and the public anticipates significant benefits from the inventive and creative contributions of scientists.
Scientists are held more accountable to the greater community of which they are a part as science grows more intricately intertwined with significant social, intellectual, economic, and political challenges.
It is therefore more crucial than ever that the institutions and individual scientists regularly reevaluate the professional standards and principles that direct their work and their efforts to conduct it with honesty.
Thousands of patients have agreed to participate in clinical trials, which have resulted in several breakthroughs in illness prevention and treatment over the last few decades. These trials are the reason behind every medication and intervention that people have ever taken. Many more people might have suffered if these people hadn’t been willing to help.
The quality of information generated and the data’s applicability to meeting public health needs determine the clinical trials’ worth. However, a large number of developing nations lack adequate medical infrastructure and little to no experience in conducting clinical trials.
Furthermore, there is a great deal of variation in health care systems between nations and even within them. This could lead to variations in a number of areas, ranging from the review procedure itself to every other stage of running a research, including patient safety and data monitoring.
In order to address these issues, UEARS invited COMSTECH to provide training and development in the field of research integrity in clinical trials to OIC researchers, who were included in the audience.
for the workshop’s anticipated results, the representative disclosed that a draft set of guidelines for research integrity in clinical trials will be recorded via this occasion.
The distribution of statements to pertinent institutions and the certification of clinical trial participants for research integrity training are the other objectives.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Khan, a distinguished scholar of COMSTECH, will introduce the workshop on the first day. There will be three sessions covering the following topics: Design and statistical analysis of clinical trials; ethical issues in multicenter clinical trials; and critical appraisal of clinical trials.
Three seminars covering the areas of clinical trial regulation and oversight, clinical trial publication, and presentation of recommendations for finalization and feedback will take place on the second day of the workshop.
The workshop’s presenters are probably going to include Professor Dr. Khalid Saeed Khan, a COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar from the University of Granada; Professor Dr. Yacoub Khalaf, a UEARS Distinguished Scholar from London College, UK; and Dr. Mohamed Fawzy, cofounder of UEARS.
