Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi will visit Pakistan on April 22, sources said, amid heightened tensions in the region after Iran’s unprecedented drone and missile attacks on Sunday.
According to sources, Islamabad and Tehran have agreed on issues related to the arrival of President Raisi, who will be accompanied by a high-level delegation and meet Prime Minister Shehbaz
The visit came after Tehran fired more than 300 drones and rockets at Israel in response to Israeli airstrikes on its consulate in Damascus. .
In addition, the visit is part of the efforts of the two countries to deepen their cooperation, which was temporarily strained at the beginning of this year.
Relations between the two countries soured in January after Pakistan launched precision strikes using killer drones, missiles, ammunition and weapons to target terrorists inside Iran in retaliation for Tehran’s cross-border attacks.
Pakistan even withdrew its ambassador from Iran and announced that it would not allow the return of Iranian representatives who had visited the country during protests against violations of Iran’s sovereignty.
But diplomatic relations were soon restored and the ambassadors of the two countries returned to their respective posts.
Sources said President Raisi’s agenda included bilateral relations, security cooperation, gas pipelines and a possible free trade agreement (FTA).
The visit of the Iranian president is very important for the main economic interests of the two countries, especially the Pak-Iran gas pipeline.
In a separate development, it is important to note that Iran will release the Pakistanis on the ship captured by the Iranian forces on Monday after confirming their nationalities and releasing them because of the brotherly ties between the two countries.
