5 Japanese nationals unhurt in suicide attack on vehicle in Karachi: police
Police said on Friday that five Japanese nationals were unharmed after their vehicle was targeted by a fatal assailant in Karachi’s Landhi area. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Azfar Mahesar told Dawn.com that the incident took place near Murtaza Chowrangi in Landhi and five foreigners left in a Hiace car.
“The five Japanese remain safe. However, one security guard was injured with them,” he said, adding that one terrorist was killed.
Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) DIG Asif Aijaz Shih told Dawn.com that the Japanese national was riding in a car with two security guards when the motorcycle-borne assailants hit them.
“The five Japanese citizens are safe,” said DIG Shih. He also said that as a “precaution” the “dead assailant” was shot dead by the Sharafi Goth police party patrolling the area.
“So far, no one has claimed responsibility,” the DIG said, adding that the vehicle carrying the Japanese nationals escaped the bullets.
Talking to mediapersons at the scene, CTD in charge Raja Umar Khatab said Japanese citizens were traveling in a convoy of three cars.
When they saw the car, the attacker attacked.”
He said officials killed the second terrorist. In addition, there were also grenades,” he said.
He reiterated that no foreigners were harmed and said timely action by police and security personnel foiled the attack. He said the criminals were resting before carrying out the attack.
“The timely action of the police saved us from a huge loss,” according to a statement posted on X.
“We will not rest until terrorism is completely eradicated. “We will prevent every unholy act that violates law and order,” he said.
