Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has refused to approach former Australian cricketers for the national team’s head coaching job, a day before Ricky Ponting admitted he was the only one. – Interview of Indian Cricket Team Head Coach and Management Staff in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
“I have seen a lot of news about it,” Ponting told the ICC review. “Usually these things come out on social media before we know about it, but there was a bit of chatter during the IPL to get a level of interest about whether I would do it or not.
“I want to be the senior coach of my national team, but with everything I have in my life and I want to spend time at home … everyone knows you want to work with the Indian team, you can. t be part of the IPL team, by so it will come out of there.
“Also, the national head coach is a job 10 or 11 months a year, and as much as I want, it doesn’t match my life and what I like now.”
However, Shah rejected the idea, saying, “Neither me nor the BCCI has approached the former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer. The reports in some media are completely wrong.”
The BCCI is looking for a new coach for the men after former India captain Rahul Dravid decided to step down after the 2024 T20 World Cup.
“Finding the right coach for our national team is a thoughtful and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who have a deep understanding of the structure of Indian cricket and who are exceptional. It is important that our coach has a deep education. our internal cricket structure to really take the Indian team to next level,” he said.
Also, Ponting is not a former Australian cricketer since the Indian cricket staff announced that applications are being accepted for the post of head coach.
Captain Ponting’s former teammate and current Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) coach Justin Langer, former India player Gautam Gambhir and former New Zealand captain Steven Fleming are among the contenders.
However, Langer, like Ponting, does not want to replace Dravid. He could think about it in the future.
The head coach of Indian cricket team should have the ability to promote Indian cricket.
“When it comes to international cricket, there is no role more prestigious than that of the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The Indian team commands the largest fan base in the world, enjoys unparalleled support. Our rich history, our passion for the game. makes it one of the most lucrative jobs in the world, with some of the best cricketers in the world requires a high level of professionalism to nurture and meet the needs of billions of prospective fans who are able to promote Indian cricket,” he said.
