RAWALPINDI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said his party would not become part of the grand alliance proposed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as history suggests that opposition parties use such platforms for themselves. -interest.
PTI’s top leader Asad Qaiser said jailed party founder Imran Khan had given a nod to forming a “grand opposition alliance” and that he would “bring together all opposition parties to lead a powerful anti-government movement”.
The PTI leader also said that they support the participation of JI against the massive increase in electricity bills.
JI also organizes protests and is on the streets against inflated electricity bills and high taxes. The government is in talks with the party to address its concerns in a bid to end its sit-in in Rawalpindi.
In his interview with “Capital Talk’s” host Hamid Mir, Emir JI said that parties who are members of the opposition alliance later act in their own interest, which damages the cause.
“The government also thinks we have come here for a day or two, but let me tell them: we will not leave until our demands are met,” said Hafiz Naeem, who was named JI’s top leader in April.
Naeem lamented the government’s “lack of seriousness” in the talks, but his party expressed its concerns in the best possible way.
“We believe there is something dubious about the IPP contracts,” the JI chief said, declaring that his party would continue negotiations if their demands were not met.
Hafiz Naeem reiterated that his party would not be part of any alliance, considering past experience; however, she will do anything to provide relief to the masses.
