RAWALPINDI/KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) sit-in against inflation and exorbitant electricity bills has entered its 10th day in Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, JI is also organizing a sit-in for the last two days in Karachi.
JI chief Liaqat Baloch addressed workers in Rawalpindi and asked for a forensic audit of all agreements signed with independent power producers (IPPs).
“Pakistan is facing a political, constitutional, parliamentary and democratic crisis these days,” said Liaqat Baloch.
The government has lost its judgment and instability is rampant in the country, he added.
He opined that people from all walks of life joined the Jamaat-e-Islami sit-in.
Meanwhile, the next day, JI entered outside the governor’s building in Karachi. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori offered breakfast to the JI workers but they refused to take it.
“We are here with certain demands. You will have to accept them first,” the JI workers said as they returned the breakfast.
JI Emir of Karachi Munim Zafar demanded the termination of agreements made with IPP.
“There is a need to abolish perks and privileges of army and government officers,” he said.
JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman will speak in Karachi today.
