Lahore: Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that the political landscape has changed and the judiciary is now fighting for its survival rather than the PTI.
In an exclusive interview with Dunya News, Fawad Chaudhry said that the judiciary feels that the government and the establishment are trying to subjugate it just like the police and NAB.
Chaudhry expressed hope that those campaigning against Azma Bukhari would be caught and asked if Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif wanted to stand with those advocating martial law.
He further stated that the Supreme Court should have 13 judges, while the current number of 17 is given by the preference of one judge. He criticized the backlog of 56,000 cases in the Supreme Court as a failure of the justice system and stressed the need to strengthen the sessions courts and other subordinate courts.
Chaudhry called on the government to question what happened in court today, stressing that the presentation of proper evidence is essential to the court’s decision. He noted that a custodial prosecution is meant to bring the accused before a judge and if the accused is not brought before the judge, it is meaningless. He concluded that if the PTI founder’s custodial prosecution is to be accepted, it must involve a personal appearance.
