ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in his maiden speech on the floor of the National Assembly on Monday condemned the government, the results of the 2024 national elections, MPs, bureaucracy and the establishment.
“Neither the bureaucracy nor the establishment plays a role in the creation of a country,” Maulana Fazl said while addressing the assembly floor today, adding that Pakistan was created by democratic struggle and sacrifices, but politically and economically it is worth nothing. stability.
He criticized the ruling parties, saying, “Is this a parliament of the people’s representatives or an arrangement organized by the establishment?”
“How our conscience is satisfied [after the general election] because the losers are angry and even the winners are not satisfied [with the poll results].”
During his speech, the politician and cleric supported Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Supreme Leader Asad Qaiser’s demand for his party’s right to organize public rallies, which he described as a “constitutional right of the party founded by Imran”.
PTI lawmakers in the National Assembly slammed the table in support of Maulana Fazl’s remarks.
He went on to say that democracy in the country has been weakened after politicians “compromised” its principles at every opportunity and now Parliament has lost its supremacy as it cannot even pass a law on its own.
Fazl also said that “total and partial” martial law had shaken the country’s democratic foundations by toppling elected governments.
He pointed out that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) witnessed the bill related to the agreement between the federal government and the seminaries not being passed despite being presented to the assembly coincidentally.
Politico, who spearheaded the multi-party alliance – the Pakistan Democracy Movement (PDM) – that successfully ousted former prime minister Imran Khan’s government in 2022, criticized his party leaders for being stopped over “threatening letters” ahead of the February 8 election.
He raised questions about the government’s tall claims of eradicating terrorism in the country. He criticized that 80 JUI-F workers were killed in a terror attack in Bajaur during the election phase.
Fazl also called on the federal government not to raise its voice against Israeli actions that have killed over 340,000 Palestinians in the occupied territory.
He asked the top leaders of the ruling parties – Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari – of the PML-N to leave the government and go to the masses.
He added that if people voted for PTI, it should be allowed to rule.
He further announced that his party plans to organize a “million march” in Karachi and Peshawar on May 2 and 9, respectively. He asked the government to refrain from creating hurdles in the upcoming JUI-F power shows.
Fazl said his party was ready to launch a new public movement against the prevailing system of governance, which was “unacceptable” to them.
