ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday issued an urban flood warning for Karachi, Hyderabad and other areas of Sindh in light of expected heavy rains across the province.
Scattered rainfall, windstorm and thundershowers are expected in Kashmore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Umerkot, Badin, Mithi, Tharparkar and adjoining areas during the next 12 to 24 hours, according to the government body.
The downpour could result in localized flooding in cities and moderate overflows in nullahs, endangering people living in low-lying areas.
In addition, the NDMA advised the provincial disaster management departments and local administrations to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate measures to protect the vulnerable population.
The authority’s warning comes as the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) said there was a risk of rain and thunderstorms in the country’s financial center today.
The ongoing monsoon activity is likely to affect the weather in the coming days, according to the Met Office.
