There was light to moderate drizzle on Friday morning in several sections of Karachi, following the municipal administration’s warning the day before to limit mobility due to the expected severe rain.
Some of the city’s locations that have seen rain include I. I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Sarjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, Korangi Industrial Area, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, and Manghopir Northern Bypass.
In the meantime, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab wrote on social media about the measures taken by the city government to make sure the citizens of Karachi are not inconvenienced.
“Apart from pumps, 53 of these suction vehicles have been moved to various locations for clearing rainwater as and when required,” he posted on X, which used to be Twitter.
In addition to traffic police, wardens have also been stationed on important thoroughfares by the city’s mayor, in an effort to facilitate traffic flow.
Notably, in light of the anticipated heavy downpour in the metropolis, the Sindh government decided on Thursday to declare a rain emergency in the province and to keep offices in Karachi open for a half-day today.
Today’s evening sessions in schools were likewise canceled by the provincial authorities. In a statement, the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department stated that all evening shift schools, whether private or public, will remain closed.
The mayor of Karachi stated that the half-day was decided upon as a “abundant precaution.” He further asked people to avoid making unnecessary travel arrangements in order to minimize any disruption.
Heavy rain is expected in Karachi’s Gadap, Sarjani, and Malir, according to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz of the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
