ISLAMABAD: In a major political development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and hailed his first meeting with the chief executive of the rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as “positive”.
He stated this at a press conference chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and other PML-N leaders after meeting the Prime Minister.
CM Gandapur, who belongs to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said he stressed the need for a political dialogue with party founder Imran Khan, who has been behind bars since August last year in various cases ranging from corruption to terrorism.
“I have asked the Prime Minister to engage politically with Imran Khan. Political engagement will lead to a political solution,” he added.
Gandapur said Prime Minister Shehbaz had also assured him that he would be able to meet the party founder at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where authorities have beefed up security and barred former Prime Minister Imran from holding meetings due to “threat warnings”.
The KP CM said he told the PM that he had to meet the party founder to discuss the upcoming Senate polls.
KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur said he had very “positive” talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on public and provincial issues, law and order and other matters.
