Peshawar: The meeting of the Apex Committee chaired by the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has concluded and the participants have agreed to most of the demands raised by the Bannu Peace Jirga.
According to sources, the Apex Committee meeting chaired by Ali Amin Gandapur and attended by Corps Commander Peshawar, IG Principal Secretary Police and members of the Bannu Jirga took several important decisions.
The participants of the Apex Committee meeting agreed to most of the demands of the Bannu Peace Jirga. Subsequently, a joint communiqué was issued from the Apex Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The communique said that terrorists in any form are condemnable and action against them will be taken without discrimination. The Chief Minister directed the police to take strict legal action against any armed non-government persons. The establishment of offices, bases or checkpoints by any non-governmental armed groups is illegal and the police will crack down on them without discrimination across the province.
The joint communique further said that military institutions have clarified that there are no military operations currently underway in the province. Operations against terrorist elements will be handled by the local police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). Due to the nature of some areas, their geography and proximity to borders, the assistance of the Pakistan Armed Forces will be sought.
According to the communique, the police have been instructed to maintain regular and consistent patrolling. Additional police personnel and vehicles will be provided across the province, with a particular focus on the southern districts. The creation of new positions in the southern districts will also be a priority.
