Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday insisted on creating awareness among farmers about new varieties of wheat for maximum production besides meeting the demand of the province.
He said this while inaugurating a new type of wheat harvesting technology at a ceremony held at the Agricultural University of Peshawar (AUP) here.
Hakim called the production of special wheat by AUP in collaboration with Washington State University and University of Agriculture Faisalabad as a great initiative and appreciated the efforts of Senator Noman Wazir to introduce special wheat varieties in AUP.
He said that landowners and farmers of the province should receive instructions on current wheat varieties and the use of new technologies in agriculture to increase the productivity of high-quality wheat.
Kundi directed the AUP vice-chancellor to transfer modern research to local farmers and land owners and stressed the need for serious efforts for agricultural self-sufficiency in the province.
He also called for the improvement of infrastructure in the province for the irrigation of waterless land and the production of wheat and other agricultural products.
The governor urged political parties to work on water conservation and proper use. He said that all provincial governments should give opportunities to farmers and farmers to make their lives easier.
Kundi said he will cover the issues of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the challenges faced by local farmers and farmers in the federation.
“I want to work together for the development of the country, the youth, and all parts of society,” he said, adding that under Articles 121 and 122 of the constitution, no one is responsible for their own decisions or those who like or dislike them.
Kundi said that he will not let the development of this province be disturbed because of the position of the governor and said that he would welcome all political parties and public representatives in the governorship for the progress of the people.
“I am asking all political parties to come to the governor and discuss the problems of the province and the federation.”
