PESHAWAR: As the heat wave continues to engulf several parts of the country, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Sunday changed the school timings and announced the summer vacation dates.
KP schools will now be open from 8 am to 7 pm. Elementary students will dismiss at 11 a.m., while middle, high, and high schools close at 12 p.m.
“Due to the extreme heat, school timings have changed,” the KP education department said in a statement.
In addition, the government has announced summer vacation for primary schools, which will run from June 1 to August 31.
Meanwhile, middle schools, high schools and high schools will be on vacation from June 15 to August 31.
However, schools in colder regions will be on summer vacation from July 1 to August 31, the Department of Education added.
The announcement came a day after the KP government announced a seven-day holiday for schools in Punjab due to heat wave.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar announced the holiday in a letter on X. The minister shared a notification that public and private schools will be closed from May 25 to May 31.
The government has also changed school timings from 7am to 11.30am Monday to Thursday, closing at 7.30am on Fridays.
However, the provincial government’s announcement of summer vacation in the province from June 1 to August 14 has asked the All Pakistan Private School Management Association (APPSMA) to close schools from 7 am to 10 am from June 1 to 15. asked to be allowed to work until, was refused. .
This was followed by an announcement by the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BIEK) to postpone the intermediate examination by five days.
The exam which was originally scheduled to begin on May 22, will now be held from May 27 (tomorrow).
