LIVERPOOL – Liverpool expect Mohammad Salah to see out at least the final year of his contract at Anfield, according to reports on Monday.
Sky Sports and The Athletic report that Salah, 31, wants to leave and Liverpool are reluctant to sell.
The Egyptian spoke openly with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in preparation for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham.
Speaking after the game, Salah said: “If I had said that today there would have been fire.”
Liverpool rejected advances from the Saudi Arabian league earlier in the season, including a 150 million euro ($188 million) bid from Al Ittihad.
However, Klopp will leave the club at the end of the season, fueling speculation about the future of some of his top players.
The Gulf kingdom, which is backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, is expected to be a key player in the summer transfer market to attract more star names including Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Sadio Mane.
Salah has scored 24 goals this season but has struggled for form since picking up an injury at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
With Salah’s hands dry, Liverpool’s season opened. The Reds have been knocked out of the Premier League title race and out of the Europa League and FA Cup.
Salah has just over 12 months until 2022 to sign a three-year contract worth €18 million a year.
