Rawalpindi: Mark Chapman hopes that the absence of New Zealand players in the T20I series against Pakistan will not affect the result.
First match of five T20I series will played in Rawalpindi.
“We know we have lost some players. We have an interesting group of players here. The team has talented players who have shown their skills and performed well in domestic cricket. The boys are excited to give their best in the series,” said Chapman in press conference
“The team is a strong unit. Pakistan is playing the best team against us, so it will be a good opportunity for our young players to show their talent against the best players of Pakistan.
He also hopes to make this series a real contender.
“There is some quality talent in the New Zealand team. I expect this series to be competitive.”
Michael Bracewell will lead New Zealand during the tour of Pakistan.
Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Racine Ravindra, Mitch Santner and Kane Williamson will miss the series due to Indian Premier League commitments.
Colin Munro was not picked and Tim Southee was rested.
Will Young was not selected due to his contract with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, as was Tom Latham, who was expecting the birth of his second child.
