Islamabad: Controversy is brewing in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), with Sher Afzal Marwat demanding the resignation of Shibli Faraz, saying the party will only be freed from the “captive mafia”.
His wish, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, said there would be more changes in the organizational structure of the party after he resigned as PTI General Secretary.
“I want Shibli Faraz to resign from the party post and from the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Senate,” said Marwat, who has fallen out with Faraz and other party leaders.
In May, Marwat publicly said that they did not allow Senators Faraz and Omar to meet PTI founder Imran Khan in custody.
Marwat’s statement came after the party canceled its nomination for the post of National Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman and named Sheikh Waqas Akram for the post.
After these remarks, Marwat was removed from the core and political committee of the party by the order of PTI founder. Later, the party gave him a show cause notice for violating its code of conduct and policy.
Talking about the leadership of the party, Marwat said that there have been many cases of failed leadership and many examples like the party’s ‘bat’ symbol and the problem of reserve seats.
