Islamabad:- Former Interior Minister and Muslim League President Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has asked Army General Asim Munir and ISI Director General Nadeem Anjum to grant amnesty [to those arrested in connection with May 9 riots] on Eid al-Adha on Thursday Azha .
Addressing a group of reporters on the sidelines of the Islamabad Parliament, Rashid said that 80 to 90 percent of people accused of various charges are innocent [May 9].
The AML chief also asked for the release of PTI women leaders Alia Hamza and Sanam Javed and expressed concern over their transfer from one jail to another, comparing their treatment to the “daughters of Jhansi”.
Worried about the deteriorating security situation and rising inflation, Rashid said even funerals are being targeted by bandits in Rawalpindi.
Rashid said the honor and dignity of the army is important for every Pakistani, but expressed concern over the release of those allegedly involved in the May 9 incident after a year in prison.
The former minister warned that time is running out, saying Pakistani investors are leaving the country. He also cited the suspension of investment agreements signed with China during Pervez Musharraf’s tenure as minister.
Earlier, Sheikh Rasheed, along with his lawyer Ali Nawaz Awan, came to the Islamabad District and Majlis Court to hear the PTI Azadi March vandalism case.
However, the hearing was adjourned till June 10 due to the absence of Civil Judge Malik Muhammad Imran.
The case was registered against PTI founder Imran Khan, Sheikh Rasheed and others at I-9 police station.
