LAHORE: Prof. An independent three-member medical committee comprising Rana Dilawaiz Nadeem, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband and Prof Javed Akram gave a detailed report on fast bowler Ihsanullah’s right elbow injury and recommended next steps to the PCB chairman. Mohsin Naqvi.
According to the press release, an independent committee thoroughly reviewed the case history, including all MRI, ultrasound and similar reports, interviews with Ihsanullah, a member of PCB’s medical science and sports department, and consultations with renowned surgeons and specialists. Prof. Adam Watts (Hand, Elbow and Upper Limb Surgery Consultant), Mr. Jawed Mugal (Director and Lead Physiotherapist, Rainham Physiotherapy Center) and Dr. Muhammad Waseem (Orthopedic Surgery, Shoulder and Elbow Specialist).
In addition to recommending a treatment plan, the medical committee also identified and indicated that Ihsanullah’s injuries were delayed in the diagnosis and improper prescription of medication, as well as failure to follow the rehabilitation plan prescribed for the fast track. “
The three-member independent medical committee concluded: “The committee concluded that the condition of Ihsanullah’s right elbow pain was not addressed, treated and managed properly. There was a delay in reaching a clinical diagnosis and investigation. According to his records, he did not receive formal treatment.
“The operation was quickly planned without expert review and preliminary assessment.
“The surgeon recommended by the director of medicine and sports science is inappropriate, lacks academics and experience in the field.
“After the operation, Mr. Ihsanullah did not fully comply with the recovery protocol as per PCB officials. He continues to experience medial elbow pain along with shoulder dyskinesia. He has significant elbow stiffness, and on the advice of national and international shoulder and elbow experts, surgery is not recommended at this time.
“However, given the talent that Ihsanullah has, we strongly believe that upon arrival in Pakistan, a physical assessment will be carried out and a multi-faceted rehabilitation plan, including hydrodilation, will be developed and implemented to ensure the best possible opportunity for the player to live up to his potential again.”
For Arshad, the committee recommended a two-month rehabilitation program, while for Zeeshan, the committee recommended the thief should be examined by a foot and ankle specialist. Regarding Shawal, the committee recommended a CT scan of his right shoulder before recommending further action.
Meanwhile, the Director of Medical and Sports Science, Dr. Sohail Saleem, announced his resignation as accepted by the PCB.
