Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has said that Pakistan and Belarus need to improve their bilateral trade relations to realize their full potential.
Pakistan exports a wide range of goods to Belarus, including pharmaceuticals, optical/medical equipment, rice, leather goods, textiles, cotton, footwear, sports equipment, cotton clothing, salt and mangoes.
However, Pakistan’s imports from Belarus consist of agricultural tractors, fertilizers, wood pulp and automobiles.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted Pakistan’s important position as the world’s fourth largest milk producer and emphasized that the country has the potential to become a major exporter in the sector.
He called for exploring new ways and potential to exploit this opportunity and suggested Belarus to bring its tractors to Pakistan’s agricultural requirements.
Despite the total trade volume of 19.05 million dollars, Minister Jam Kamal Khan pointed out that this figure shows the low trade potential between the two countries.
He referred to the results of the 6th Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) meeting held in Minsk from 12-13 January 2023, where both sides reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation in trade.
In addition, Ambassador Mr. Andrey Metelitsa highlighted the experience of Belarus in the production of harvesters and electric vehicles (EV) and proposed a deeper cooperation between the two countries in this sector.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the importance of Business-to-Business (B-B) and Government-to-Government (G-G) dialogues to increase trade volume and strengthen bilateral relations.
