Ministry taking steps to introduce climate friendly buildings, Romina Alam

Islamabad: Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam said on Thursday that the ministry led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is taking steps to combat plastic pollution and introduce climate-friendly buildings and the provincial government to improve the urban landscape.
Speaking to PTV news channel, he said that green and sustainable building practices in the country’s housing and construction sector will promote sustainable living and moderate consumption to save energy and limited natural resources.
He said the government is now at the forefront of promoting sustainable construction practices in the country through various policies and regulations.
In response to a question, he said that with the green building code, the ministry will try to increase tree cover and improve air quality, and will support the construction of green buildings to achieve certain benefits in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Commenting on the heat wave, he said that the Chief Minister had informed the committee in collaboration with the provincial government and that NDMA and experts were also taken to discuss solutions and move forward for urban forestry.
He said that the government is ready to solve the problem of increasing plastic pollution and all stakeholders are approached and on board to make Pakistan a plastic free country.
Romina Alam said that plastic pollution has caused environmental damage, but the problem is difficult to deal with due to the large use of plastic products in the country, adding that the Ministry of Climate Change has launched a media campaign with the theme of ‘Water’. my school Bottles to overcome the use of plastic bottles.
He also said that the department’s website has introduced a bulletin on the general work of the department, which will also highlight upcoming and ongoing projects.
The government is also following a zero tolerance policy against logging mafias and incidents of forest fires and has said that in future no one will be allowed to cut down even a single tree.
