LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq Thursday opened up about the change in leadership of the national side.
Misbah said that the right approach was not taken when Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi were dropped from the captaincy recently.
“The process of changing captaincy in Pakistan is not very pleasant and it affects the players,” Misbah told the media in Lahore.
“Babar was wrongly removed from the captaincy, and so was Shaheen Afridi.
“Babar and Shaheen are both star players and my hope is with the team, I hope they do well.”
It should be noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board last month named Azam as the new white wicket from the national side.
The PCB said the change was a “strategic move aimed at ensuring the welfare and maximum performance of the players”.
“This decision is in line with our commitment to maintain the longevity of the players, especially from the number the injuries they have suffered in the last two years,” PCB said.
“Keeping workload management in mind, this decision is to ensure that key players in Pakistan remain at the top of their game. The board does not want the men’s national team to face a crisis of injuries and bowling resources, as seen in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will require monitoring of Shaheen and ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. Shaheen, a captain in Major T20I cricket, replaced Shan Masood in Tests last year.
