Islamabad: Members of parliament on Monday highlighted the issue of equitable distribution of resources, bringing in foreign direct investment and youth education for sustainable economic growth in the 2024 budget.
They also stressed the need to review the 7th National Finance Commission (NFC) award and ensure a fair distribution of resources among the provinces, which will not only strengthen the federation but the country’s economy will also achieve the goal of sustainable development.
The MPs also emphasized on providing more resources to the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of the country’s economy, as well as increasing the role of the youth in the country’s economy.
Participating in the budget debate, PPP MNA Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur said that the government had presented the budget for 2024-25 during the economic crisis and now the government should take necessary measures for sustainable economic growth.
He said that agricultural income tax has been proposed in the 2024-25 budget, which is the largest sector for GDP growth and the guarantor of the country’s economic growth.
Talpur said the National Finance Commission (NFC) award should be revived for fair distribution among the provinces and strengthen the federation.
He said that the economy of the state and the federation would be strengthened through equitable distribution of resources.
Sunni Union Councilor MNA Ch Bilal Ejaz said that more funds should be allocated for education, health and agriculture in the 2024-25 budget.
He said that there are many youths in Pakistan and more funds should be allocated in the budget for the youths.
He said, through equal distribution of resources and making the youth educated and skilled, there will be sustainable economic development in the country.
He said, only with freedom of speech, the culture of democracy will develop in the country and the country’s economy will also strengthen.
PPP MNA Ibu Shahida Rehmani said that there is a need for tax reform and a net increase in taxes that will stabilize the country’s economy.
The DHPP leader stressed that the country’s uncultivated resources should be explored and used for the country’s economic development.
He said the current budget deficit is a major problem in the country and there is a need to raise revenue to reduce it in the next budget.
Shahida said that she has allocated more money in the 2024-25 budget to make the youth educated and employed.
MQM’s MNA Iqbal Khan Mehsud said that it is important to bring foreign direct investment to the country during the economic crisis and looked at the SIFC in this regard.
The MQM leader said that trade advisers currently posted in Pakistan’s foreign embassies should be mobilized to increase foreign investment and exports for economic development.
He said that agriculture is the main sector of the country’s economy, but agriculture must be documented.
He said, by documenting agriculture, income will increase in the country’s economy and the size of the economy will also increase.
He said the 2024-25 budget is taxing salaried people; during this time there is a need to provide relief to the wage class.
Meanwhile, PML-N MNA Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, while participating in the budget debate, stressed the need for political stability in the country and the need for mutual understanding among all political parties.
He said that in the 2024-25 budget, there is a need to create assistance for the people and important steps should be taken to provide basic facilities such as housing, education and health.
He said that journalists are always working in difficult working conditions and housing should be provided to them.
