LAHORE: Mohammad Rizwan, a batter and wicketkeeper, has been named vice-captain of Pakistan’s Twenty20 international side by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
His first task will be to support Shaheen Afridi in the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against New Zealand as his deputy.
“It is an honour to be named as the vice-captain of Pakistan Men’s T20I side,” said Muhammad Rizwan. I am appreciative that the PCB gave me this duty. To help the team succeed, I am excited to collaborate closely with the captain, the coaching staff, and my teammates.
Throughout 85 T20I appearances, Rizwan has amassed 2,797 runs, which includes 25 half-centuries and one century. Rizwan has taken 41 catches and 11 stumpings behind the stumps.
From January 12 to 21, five T20I matches will be contested in Auckland, Hamilton, Dunedin, and Christchurch.
Shaheen, the captain of Pakistan’s Twenty20 cricket team, arrived in Auckland on Monday from Sydney with five other members of the team: Babar Azam, Saim Ayub, Rizwan, Aamer Jamal, and Mohammad Wasim Jr.
Rizwan was not a part of the inquiry against Inzamam in the conflict of interest matter, according to Aalia Rasheed, the Director of Media and Communications for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who made this clear in November of last year. Rizwan had no role that might have affected team selections.
“A player’s career is short, and when it ends, they must invest their earnings to ensure their financial stability, thus Rizwan is not involved in this situation at all. If Inzamam hadn’t been the principal selector, not even questions would have been asked, Aalia told a local media source.
Even after it was made clear that Rizwan was not involved in the previously mentioned case, he is currently Pakistan’s T20I team’s vice-captain. This suggests that he is involved in team management and selection processes, which begs the question of whether his new post has created any conflicts of interest.
Full squad: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain and wicket-keeper) Aamir Jamal, Abbas Afridi, Azam Khan (wicket-keeper), Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah (wicket-keeper), Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Usama Mir and Zaman Khan
