HARYANA: Amidst rising religious tensions in Haryana, a disturbing incident unfolded as a mosque was deliberately set on fire, leading to the tragic death of the mosque’s Imam.
This event once again highlights the vulnerability of Muslims in India, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
In another distressing incident in the Uttrakhand district of Haldwani, members affiliated with the BJP were responsible for setting fire to a mosque, alleging that it was unlawfully constructed.
The aftermath of this act of violence resulted in the loss of two lives and left over 100 individuals injured. The situation escalated into riots, with instances of stone-pelting and the destruction of numerous vehicles.
Responding to the chaos, the district magistrate imposed a curfew across the area, citing the need for public safety. Furthermore, orders were issued by the Modi government to authorize the use of lethal force against those inciting unrest.
The district magistrate, Vandan Singh, was found to have manipulated casualty figures in official reports, downplaying the true extent of the tragedy by reducing the death toll from four to two.
This unfortunate incident adds to a series of events where the rights of religious minorities have been violated under the Modi administration. Recent examples include the demolition of the Babri mosque and its replacement with a Ram temple, as well as the destruction of the Akhoonji mosque in New Delhi.
