Mardan: Member Provincial Assembly Abdul Salam Afridi stated that resolving the issues of citizens at their doorstep is our top priority. Since the inception of Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) the cleanliness of Mardan city has been significantly improved.
Pakistan Tehreek Insaf Provincial government is striving to address the challenges faced by the companies. He expressed these views during his visit to WSSCM. On the occasion, Chairman Board of Directors Engineer Adil Nawaz, Directors BoD Haroon Rashid and Javed Hussain gave a detailed briefing to the Member Provincial Assembly on the company’s operations, performance, and challenges.
The briefing revealed that six hundred and seventy nine (679) sanitation and water supply staff were transferred from TMA Mardan to the company under SAMA agreement in 2016, out of which one hundred and ninety six (196) staff have been retired. Under the SAMA agreement, TMA is supposed to provide funds for the salaries of sanitation staff and electricity bills but so far no compliance been made from TMA Mardan.
If TMA provides funds timely, the financial challenges faced by the company shall be minimized. WSSCM is collecting garbage from eighty percent household on daily basis and four hundred and thirty five kilometers drains is cleaning periodically. Water Quality tests are conducted bi-annually through PCRWR to ensure the provision of clean and safe drinking water to the citizens.
MPA Abdul Salam Afridi expressed satisfaction upon the briefing and stated that meeting will be arranged to discuss and sort out the issues highlighted by the company officials, with the provincial minister of local government.
He mentioned that the provincial government of Pakistan Tehreek Insaf has established sanitation companies in the seven divisional headquarters to ensure safe drinking water and improved sanitation services. Chairman Board of Directors WSSCM Engineer Adil Nawaz thanked MPA Abdul Salam Afridi and stated that despite of limited resources, the company is providing improved sanitation services to the citizens of Mardan.
