Karachi: Former cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed praised Pakistan white ball captain Babar Azam’s “aggression with the bat” and said he has changed his batting approach in recent years.
The 29-year-old Azam was recently named Pakistan’s white-ball captain and will lead the Green Shirts in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he made the squad after losing two matches in the Men in Green.
Speaking to a local sports channel, Mushtaq, 54, said that Babar showed aggression with the stick when his intentions changed.
He showed aggression in the West. If one person can improve a lot, I think that’s enough, he said.
The former cricketer also said that when it comes to teamwork in the Pakistan cricket team, each player should play a role, but in the last few overs, the players have been running and this problem has been with the team for several years now.
“Other players also have an obligation to score runs; also has a role. If one man scores you and our other players don’t keep scoring in the remaining 7-8 overs, there is a problem. This has been happening for the last 3-4 years. It only comes in if there is no significant effect,” he said.
The legendary spinner later reminded Babar not to forget what he had done for Pakistan cricket and said that sometimes people were too hard on him.
“Talking about Babar, there is a reason why people respect him all over the world. He brings glory to Pakistan. I think sometimes people find it hard on him.”
