MUZAFFARABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Muzaffarabad has rejected the bail application of poet Ahmed Farhad.
The incident happened a day after the court issued its decision after hearing arguments from both sides.
Speaking to reporters about the court’s decision, Urooj Zainab, the poet’s wife, said she would contest the decision.
“The details of why the bail was denied have not been released,” he told the media.
Two days before the bail hearing, the ATC ordered a medical examination of the poet due to concerns about slow poisoning.
Last week, the poet was sent for a medical examination by a team of doctors from ATC Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences.
This happened during the trial of Farhad’s case, when his lawyer Iman Mazari sought a medical examination of the Kashmiri poet.
Mazari said Farhad was transferred from Dhirkot to Muzaffarabad under various sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
Farhad, who is known for his controversial prose, has gained attention after he went missing during recent protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
His wife Urooj Zainab claimed her husband was abducted from her home on May 14. She then appealed to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the recovery of her husband and asked the court to find, investigate and prosecute those responsible. disappear.
Shahir responded to the IHC’s directive to retrieve the missing poet, on May 29, Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, who was missing for 15 days, said Farhad had been arrested and was in the custody of the AJK police.
Following the development, the poet’s family met at Kahori police station outside Muzaffarabad.
The IHC last week rejected the federal government’s request to stay the poet’s recovery pending trial.
IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, while hearing the plea filed by the poet’s wife, rejected the additional application of AGP, saying that the case will be completed on the day Farhad is produced in court.
The trial will continue on June 7.
