X, an important source of data, has been unavailable to millions of users in Pakistan for more than a month since it was suspended on February 17.
In today’s hearing, the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs appeared before IHC Chief Justice Adalat Farooq, who heard the petition, and gave a report to the court.
The court asked whether there was any written notice of X’s closure.
IHC CJ said, “What is this method? What is this attitude? Help the court.”
The court said that the joint secretary should present the national security threat in writing and only declare it orally in court.
“Show the documents. There will be no verbal dialogue,” said Justice Farooq.
JJ says his secretary will make a better report than this. IHC Joint Secretary then asked CJ Farooq to look elsewhere.
At this juncture, the IHC CJ asked whether it was the first time the Joint Secretary appeared in court.
The Secretary of State told the court that content uploaded to the Internet posed a threat to national security.
The court said there must be evidence of danger. “You covered up X in the Intelligence Agency (IB) report. There is no reason, just a report based on assumptions,” he said.
Justice Farooq asked the joint secretary to take the decision of another court in this matter. The court then summoned the home secretary on April 17.
IHC CJ Farooq said, “Evil exists in every educational institution” and added that the problem should end now that the elections are over.
“Let the home secretary come and see. If nothing happens, we will call the prime minister,” he said.
The joint secretary then asked the court not to summon senior officials, looking for other opportunities.
