Islamabad:- Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday approached the court to acquit the Toshakan car purchase case.
Accountability Court judge Kazi Nasir Javed Rana presided over the hearing of the Toshakhana case involving President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Advocate Arshad Tabraiz appeared in court on behalf of President Zardari, while PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif was represented by lawyer Rana Muhammad Irfan, who filed the acquittal case on behalf of his client.
During the hearing, Justice Nasir Rana said that the parties were served notice of the acquittal appeal. After that, the NAB prosecutor said that he would send a short notice to the NAB headquarters regarding his release request.
The court heard a petition against Nawaz Sharif’s acquittal on May 23.
A request was made to disqualify former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani from participating in the trial, which was accepted by the court.
Lawyer Arshad Tabraiz told the court that President Zardari was enjoying presidential immunity and said the trial could not continue.
The accountability court adjourned the Toshahhana traffic case till June 3.
On April 17, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cleared former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana traffic reference.
