Islamabad:- Based on the forecast model, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of NDMA has reported that the main activity has been done by the eastern India indicating the possibility of heavy cloud storm in the area of Pakistan. A continuous warning has been issued for all provinces and moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the upper reaches of Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab rivers from July 2, 2024. NDMA has also issued a lightning warning. Thunderstorms are expected in several cities of South and Central Punjab and Islamabad during July 5-7.
This can lead to a rapid rise in water levels, flash floods and urban flooding in urban areas. The NDMA warned that the expected rains may pose a low to moderate flood risk in the Sutlej River, with water reaching low water levels (around 50,000 cusecs) by July 5 and peak flood levels (around 120,000 cusecs) by July 10. 2024.
The NDMA works closely with federal and provincial departments to ensure preparedness and response to these emergencies. The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities. NDMA advises the public to download the mobile application ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ for timely awareness and warning and monitor flood weather reports and updates, follow instructions, evacuate immediately if orders are issued by local authorities, and stay safe from floods. Contact with waste that may be contaminated or contain dust or electrical wires. Make an evacuation plan with your family, identify a safe place, and set up an emergency kit and necessary equipment. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains and possible flooding.
