TARKU: India’s Neeraj Chopra made a comeback with a throw of 85.97 meters to win gold at the 2024 Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, on June 8.
The gold medalist’s performance in Turku suggests she will compete at the Paris Olympics next month.
He started with a throw of 83.62 in the first round of the event. Last year’s gold medalist Oliver Helander took the lead in the next round with a throw of 83.96. Finland’s lead was short-lived as Chopra regained the lead with a throw of 85.97m.
This is Chopra’s third incident of the season. He missed the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics due to injury.
Chopra managed six throws of 83.62m, 83.45m, 85.97m, 82.21m and 82.97m to finish with the fifth throw.
Keranen and Helander followed Chopra with throws of 84.19m and 83.96m respectively.
Former world champion Anderson Peters finished fourth with a throw of 82.58 metres.
Chopra earned a place in the event after competing in the Doha Diamond League in May and placed second with a throw of 88.36m.
Ostrava pulled out of the Golden Spike due to minor supplement issues. He will now participate in the Paris Diamond League on July 7.
The gold medalist decided to skip the National Inter-State Athletics in Panchkula to avoid the possible schedule. The event is scheduled for July 27.
Other results at the Games saw Olympic champion Lamont Marcel Jacobs win the 100 meters (9.93 seconds).
Rio champion Omat McLeod won the 110m in 13.83 seconds.
