RAWALPINDI: Arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Monday said he has “no problem with MNA Sher Afzal Marwat if he joins the party line” after expelling the party’s top lawmaker.
Known for his outspoken and controversial remarks, Marwat found himself in hot water after allegations of involvement in the 2022 overthrow of the Khan-led government.
The top leader of the former ruling party did not shy away from Marwat’s remarks about Riyadh, but informed the sacked senior PTI leader of the reason.
He was given three days to respond to the notice and explain his position that no action should be taken against him.
This is not the first time Marwata Party has reported it. In February, the PTI issued a show-cause notice to Marwat over his remarks about the party’s interim acting chief, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. Marwat claimed in a TV show that Gohar was “removed from the post of party chief due to his unsatisfactory performance”.
Marwat, who went to the National Assembly after winning the NA-41 seat in the February general elections, has been making headlines for the past few months for his remarks which have angered his leaders.
The development follows PTI chief Omar Ayub’s announcement that Marwat, led by party founder Imran Khan, has been expelled from the party’s core and political committees.
“There is no problem if Sher Afzal Marwat takes up party politics,” the PTI founder told reporters at Adiala Jail.
Expressing anger, the PTI founder said Marwat’s controversial statement came during the Saudi delegation’s visit to the country.
He also acknowledged Marwat’s sacrifice and contribution to the former ruling party.
A lawyer should not offend party politics more than once.
