Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Thursday accepted the resignation of PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub.
In an interview with Ayub (formerly of Twitter), Ayub said, “I am grateful to Prime Minister Imran Khan for accepting my resignation as PTI General Secretary to concentrate on my role as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.”
Resignation letter dated June 22, 2024 sent to Imran Khan and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. The leader of the opposition in the Senate, Senator Shibli Faraz, told a meeting in Adyala prison that Ayub had been fired. .
“Further changes will be made in PTI’s organizational structure in the coming days on the orders of Prime Minister Imran Khan Sahib,” Ayub said in his post.

PTI rejects Umar Ayub’s resignation as party secretary general
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sunni Ittehad Council Parliamentary Party have agreed to reject the resignation of Umar Ayub as General Secretary.
He had resigned voluntarily and in consultation with PTI founders, party and board members urged him to reconsider.
In a meeting held in Islamabad, a resolution was passed by PTI and SIK members confirming their unanimous decision not to accept Ayub’s resignation. They expressed confidence in his ability to effectively manage the affairs of the party and called for his continued leadership.
The participants of the meeting sent an official letter to the founders of PTI asking Ayub to remain as Secretary General. They stressed the importance of addressing abuses positively and maintaining unity within the party ranks.
Addressing the meeting, the opposition leader said his resignation was a personal decision. He cited ongoing election issues and litigation as reasons for the party to shirk its responsibilities.
However, party members remained adamant, stressing Ayub’s key role in PTI’s organizational structure.
