CHITRAL: Arando has been blocked for all vehicular traffic since it opened two days ago due to recent rains and flooding on several highways in the Pak-Afghan border region. On the road from Mir Khani, Lingorbut, Damil Nisar, Kotai and Ram Ram to Arando, roads are closed to all traffic due to heavy rocks and mountains. However, under the guidance of Chitral Deputy Commissioner AC Drosh, Engineer Tariq Murtaza, Communications and Works (C&W) Department, contractor Shah Muhammad immediately put the equipment to work and started clearing the road. After continuous work, these roads have been opened for all types of vehicles, cleaning work on Langor Butte Road has also started today. However, some rain continued in Chitral since Thursday evening, causing flooding in several nullahs and streams. As a result, Jalan Arundu was closed again due to flooding in Langoorbut nullah, leaving commuters waiting for several hours and passenger vans carrying women and children stranded on the road. However, under the instructions of the Executive Engineer, C&W Division, the contractor’s machine was once again mobilized, the machine waits for the rain to subside as soon as the flood subsides, paving the way for traffic.
In addition, C&W department has started desalination and cleaning in Drosh Goal drains and drains in Drosh Goal center. In case the water level rises, it does not damage shops and houses along the stream. Along with cleaning these canals and drains, the C&W department also cleaned Biori Janjirat, Ursoon, Kasam, Shashi Madaglasht and Kotai roads and opened these roads for all kinds of traffic. C&W Chief Engineer Munir Ahmed and Executive Engineer Tariq Murtaza also visited Arundo Road and instructed the concerned employees and contractors to keep their equipment ready in case of closure of these roads, which should be opened immediately.
Abdul Rahman Baba, a senior resident of Drosh, said that he had to face heavy losses several times due to Drosh Goal Nullah. Due to the filling of this nullah with waste, it caused a big flood that damaged our fields, houses and shops. He said that the drain should be cleaned before the flood and the waste should be removed after the drain, so as not to cause problems to the residents of the area. Mohammad Shoib, a resident of Koro village on the banks of the river, told this secretary that every time there is a flood in this stream, we cannot sleep for fear that the water will flood and take us away. When the channel starts, we sleep easily.
Drosh Muhammad Ali, Additional Assistant Commissioner, said that after continuous rains, Drosh’s tributary nullahs continued to flood and people living on its banks suffered huge losses. He realized that before the flood, the drain should remove the dust and debris, and if the water level rises, the people should be saved from loss.
Haji Soltan, a political and social worker of Arundo, said that Arundo is a backward valley area, they feel the most suffering and regret because of the negligence of the government and even now WAPDA does not have electricity. , no cell phone, internet, DSL or other networks. The only Village Health Center has been without a doctor for a long time and the area has been badly affected by several natural disasters. He said that Arundo is a beautiful but backward area, which should always be focused on, and if it is not possible to get rid of these people, development work should start here to reduce the problem.
