ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will participate in the upcoming XXXIII. Summer Olympics in Paris, France with a contingent of seven athletes competing in athletics, shooting and swimming.
The composition of the Pakistan team is as follows- Athletics: Arshad Nadeem – Athlete, Javelin (Qualified); Ms Faiqa Riaz – Athlete, 100m (All-Purpose) – World Athletics Approved; Salman Iqbal Butt – Athlete Support Staff and Dr. Ali Sher Bajwa – Support Staff for Athletes, they said in a press release.
Swimming: Muhammad Ahmed Durrani – Athlete, 200m Freestyle (All-Place) – Approved by World Aquatics; Jehanara Nabi – Athlete, 200m Freestyle (Universality Place) – Endorsed by World Aquatics and Lt Col (R) Ahmed Ali Khan – Athlete Support Staff.
Shooting: Ghulam Mustafa Bashir – Sportsman (25m Rapid Fire Pistol) – Qualification; Gulfam Joseph – Athlete (10m Air Pistol, 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team) – Qualification; Ms. Kishmala Talat – Athlete (10m Air Pistol, 25m Pistol, 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team) – Qualified; Colonel Junaid Ali – Athlete Support Staff; Gennady Solodovnikov, support staff for athletes.
Representatives of the contingent include Muhammad Shafiq – Chief of Mission (CDM); Javaid Shamshad Lodhi, Deputy CDM; Ms. Zainab Shaukat – Administrative Officer.
Special appointments from staff certified by the IOC and the Embassy of Pakistan in France include Dr. Syed Meesaq Hussain Rizvi, OLY – Chief Medical Officer; Kashif Jameel – NOC Olympic Attaché (Chief Chancellor, Embassy of Pakistan in France); Rizwan Ahmed – Social Officer (MOV Certified Safety Officer in Sports).
Athletes and team officials depart in different groups from July 19 to 24 and return in different groups after their competitions are over. Arshad Nadeem, Athlete (Athletics) and Ms. Jehanara Nabi, Athlete (Swimming) will represent Pakistan as flag bearers at the opening ceremony on July 26.
