ISLAMABAD: A joint Pak-Korea Seminar was arranged by the Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), with funding from Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL). The “Establishment of PAK-KOREA Testing Laboratory for PV Modules and Allied Equipment” was the topic of discussion and promotion during the conference. The project has grant-aid from KOICA totaling USD 9.5 million, while PSDP is responsible for funding the local portion of Rs. 185.8 million.
Five members of delegations from KCL and the Korea Energy Agency (KEA), as well as representatives from the KOICA Pakistan office, attended the Pak-Korea Seminar. Senior PCRET and Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) officials were present during the seminar, along with representatives from many other organizations.
Experts from Pakistan and Korea discussed the Republic of Korea’s solar panel quality control system as well as the suggested policy direction for establishing a comparable system in Pakistan.
According to the project administrators, this was the first time that private sector solar-based enterprises had been contacted as part of the project to solicit ideas for developing a national PV panel quality monitoring system. Two further seminars will be held as part of this initiative, according to the project authorities, in order to complete the industry’s quality control system for PV panels.
