Islamabad: The Director of Development, British High Commission in Pakistan, Mrs Jo Moir, on Tuesday agreed to increase cooperation between the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) and Pakistan in key areas of socio-economic development.
In his meeting with the Minister of Economy Ahad Khan Chema, he assured full support in exploring innovative green financing instruments to combat climate change and support social sector initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy.
FCDO team leader Rizwan Azam and senior officials of the Ministry of Economy also attended the meeting.
Ms Jo Moir also highlighted the ways in which British experience in public administration could be used to strengthen the capabilities of Pakistan’s bureaucracy.
The Director of Development expressed appreciation for the strong partnership and joint efforts in solving problems such as reducing poverty, climate change, financing instruments and strengthening governance and financial accountability.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Economy reiterated the government’s commitment to continue working with the FCDO for the socio-economic development of the country.
He thanked the Director of Development of the British High Commission in Pakistan for their support and assistance to the people of Pakistan.
He specifically acknowledged FCDO’s role in providing critical assistance during the 2022 floods and supporting the International Partner Support Group (IPSG).
In the meeting, the minister discussed strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Pakistan’s bureaucracy and emphasized the importance of a trained workforce in achieving national development goals.
He suggested studying the curriculum based on the British bureaucracy to strengthen the capacity of Pakistan’s bureaucracy. The Director of Development approved the idea, indicating that he would be willing to discuss how to support this effort.
