RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army on Saturday conferred honorary captaincy on British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan after a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir.
Khan, who has won several global boxing titles, made his mark today by defeating Indian fighter Rana Singh in 20 seconds along with Gen Munir’s martial arts champion Shahzaib Rind at General Headquarters (GHQ) – Rawalpindi. karate fight in Dubai last month, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to a military news agency, the army chief appreciated the athletes for their achievements in the field of sports and expressed full confidence in the youth of Pakistan for their great potential.
“Thank you very much General Syed Asim Munir and the Pakistan Army for honoring me with the rank of Captain,” Khan shared in a video of himself wearing a Pakistan Army uniform, as well as a picture on his Instagram.
In one of his pictures, the former boxer sings the slogan of Pakistan Zindabad in the tone of a typical military officer. He also shared another picture on the set, showing him receiving a guard of honor from an army of smart soldiers at GHQ.
Apparently, on the way to the army headquarters in the car, Khan was seen in the video thanking the Pakistan Army for honoring him as a captain.
Telling his fans about his achievement, Khan said it was “an honor only given by my country, Pakistan”. I really love Pakistani people and the country in general. So I want to share this experience. But, I have nothing to do with politics,” he said.
